SEEK SURRENDER SERVE

You Are Invited
Soup and Sandwich Lunch to Help Support the
Christian COG School in Honduras.

Sunday, May 16th after the 2nd Service in the FLC.

On February 25th, seven teens and four adults, from our congregation, traveled to Honduras on a mission trip to serve with the Church of God in La Ceiba. It was an awesome trip! While we were there we got to spend a morning at the Escuela Evangelica Las Naciones (The Nations Evangelical School), getting to know the children and teachers and having a lot of fun face painting!

The Church of God in La Ceiba began this Christian School, for preschool to 4th grade, four years ago. There are presently 125 students. To change their country for Christ they know it is essential to begin with the children. There is no tuition charged and it is operated by faith, and God has been faithful! It is a bilingual school and is a colorful and positive atmosphere, unlike the public schools in Honduras.

We were lead to seek ways in which we, as a church body, could help support the school. The principal, Xiomara Allen, provided us with a list of supplies that would greatly help them. Some are school supplies. Other items are things that the school can provide to parents for resale to raise funds to help support the school financially. ( “American” products are very popular in Honduras).

So,… we would like to invite our church family to be part of this mission outreach to our Honduran brothers and sisters by joining us for an after church luncheon on May 16th. We are asking that you donate, at the door, as you feel led. Another way to help is by donating any of the items listed, either school supplies or items for resale. The resale items can be new or like new. Please give any donated items either to Kathy Baker, Carla Baer or you can leave them at the Church Office.
Muchas Gracias!!

The 30 Hour Famine
World hunger and starvation is real. One person dies every 3 seconds from it and 2/3 of those are children.
On March 26th over 50 teens, from our church and two others, participated in World Vision’s 30 hour famine. We spent Friday evening through Saturday together at church. The fast from all food begins at noon on Friday and continues till it is broken on Saturday at 6pm with communion. There are several juice/water breaks during that time.
The activities include “tribal” challenges, music, a candle light vigil, a canned food collection, neighborhood trash pick-up, a visit to West Haven and an excellent guest speaker.
The teens have to get sponsors prior to the famine. A total of $2,600 was raised for World Vision’s famine relief. For every $30 they estimate they will save another life for 30 days.
The 30 hour famine is an intense experience for all involved. It includes a lot of fun, challenges, sacrifice, and reflection. Although we do get hungry it is a sobering reminder to know that our hunger last only for 30 hours.
Thank-you to all those that supported us and to those who were involved!
